TIPS FOR INSPIRING ACTORS WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW WHEN GETTING STARTED AND WHAT HAPPENS AT A CASTING CALL AUDITION AND WHAT TO EXPECT? BY D-TEFLON

Q: Who conducts an audition?

1.  A: You may audition for one person or a panel, but it is usually the Director or Casting Director who has the final vote as to who is to be used in a show.

2. Q: What is a Casting Director?

3. A: A director of a film or any modeling assignment who may also select the people and models for a feature and minor films, industrial films and television commercials and videos.

4. Q: What is the difference between an Agent and a Casting Director?

A:  An Agent does not have the authority to cast a model or actor for a particular role, but a Casting Director does. An agent takes a percentage of your income for a commission and a Casting Director does not because they are paid directly by producers.

5. Q:  How can I locate Casting Directors in my area?

A. The phone book and internet will list them, or ask your agent for a list.

6. Q: When auditioning, should I ask who the  Producers or Casting Directors are?

A: No. If the auditor’s producers/Casting Directors want you to know who they are, they will introduce themselves.

7. How can I find out what casting directors or a producer want?

You cannot and you should not. They are always looking for someone interesting and talented for every role, so be yourself.

8. Q: What does an auditor expect from a reading?
A: A great performance from you. No more, no less.

9. Q: What should I do when they ask me, “What have you done?”

A: This is the best time to express who you are rather than merely telling them what you have done.

10. Q: What if I have little or no experience?

A: What you have actually done is not as important as how you present yourself but I strongly suggest starting off joining a background/extra agency and get familiar with being on set.

11. Q: How can I find out if I was selected?

A: If you are selected, they will call you; if you were not selected, they will not call you. It usually does not help to find out why you may have been passed over…it’s just part of the business.

12. Q: What roles should I audition for?

A: You should audition every chance you get for any role that is available for you. By approaching auditioning this way you will get more experience and you will have more to put in your resume, and you’ll be making more money! Don’t be picky, just work!

13. Why should I send a picture and resume rather than go in person?

A: A good mail campaign can create a desire on the part of the agent, casting director or auditors to want to see you in person.

14. What should I wear to an audition?

A:Wear whatever is appropriate for the role for which you are auditioning.

Q: Do I have to take a course to become a model or an actor?

A: Some are born with the it factor and are a natural on camera and while taking a class is not mandatory so the answer would be No but it helps! and I strongly recommend you do in order to become a working talent Professional training can be a vital advantage in any highly competitive field and most clients do not want to book a total beginner. Besides, the skills and knowledge acquired during training can be applied to any other pursuit or endeavor.
